Customised clothing: Sublimation printing is widely used on polyester fabrics for customised T-shirts, sportswear, uniforms and more. This type of printing allows for brightly coloured and durable patterns.
Home decoration: It can be used for personalised home furnishings such as pillows, curtains, tablecloths and wall art, and is particularly suitable for polyester materials or items treated with special coatings.
Sporting goods: sporting goods such as sports apparel, backpacks and hats are often printed by sublimation printing to achieve complex patterns that are washable and durable.
The production process of sublimation printer is usually divided into the following steps, from design, printing to finished output, each step requires professional equipment and technical support.
The specific process is as follows:
1. Design and preparation
Pattern design: first use the design software (e.g. Photoshop, CorelDRAW, etc.) to create or process the pattern to be printed to ensure that the pattern meets the requirements of the printer and media, especially the colour and size.
Print settings: Adjust the designed pattern to the colour mode suitable for the printer (usually CMYK mode), and set the print resolution and size, ready to print.
2. Print preparation
Paper Selection: Sublimation printing requires the use of special sublimation transfer paper, which is able to absorb ink and vaporise the dye in the ink when heated.
Ink Selection: Use special sublimation inks, the ink components can sublimate at high temperatures and penetrate into the substrate to achieve a permanent printing effect.
Substrate Preparation: Prepare the target substrate such as polyester fabric, coated ceramics, metal plates, etc. Sublimation printing can only be used on specific coated materials or polyester fabrics.
3. Pattern Printing
Printer operation: Print the pattern in reverse on the sublimation transfer paper, in which the printer prints the sublimation ink onto the transfer paper by thermal transfer technology. When printing, make sure the image is clear and without colour deviation.
Check the transfer paper: After printing, make sure the transfer paper is complete, the colours are bright and there is no ink spillage or blurring.
4. Transfer and heating
Transfer to substrate: Cover the printed sublimation transfer paper on the prepared substrate, make sure that the paper and the substrate are in close contact without bubbles or folds.
Thermal transfer press: Using a thermal transfer press, the paper and substrate are heated to between approximately 180°C and 220°C, usually for 30 seconds to 1 minute. During this process, the ink sublimates from a solid state into a gas and penetrates the fibres or coating of the substrate.
Cooling and separation: After completing the heating and a slight cooling, the transfer paper is separated from the substrate and the pattern has been firmly transferred to the substrate.
5. Post-processing
Finished Product Inspection: Check the final product to see if the pattern is clear, the colour is in accordance with the design requirements, and there is no residual confetti or printing defects.
Packing and Shipping: Pack the qualified products and prepare them for shipping or further processing.
6. Quality Control
During the production process, several quality checks are required to ensure that the printer's colour calibration, ink usage and finished product quality meet the standard requirements. Meanwhile, regular maintenance of the equipment is also very important to ensure stable printing results.
